Design Studio pointed pen demos
1st session: Writing in a circle.
How to go about designing a circular piece.
How to make sure all the letters or words will fit and look at the possibility of adapting letter shapes.
Looking at the angle of letters to make sure they don’t appear to be falling over on a curved design.
How to apply these to other shapes, like a square or diamond shape.
2nd session: Word design.
How to put letters together to make words. There is a lot more to it than just placing one letter after another!
How to get a balanced design by adding simple flourishing.
How to flourish letters which don’t have a descender.
How to place a couple of words together, for example, a simple greeting or a pairing of names.
3rd session: Writing a longer piece of text.
Looking at a variety of layouts.
Looking at line spacing and the effect it has overall.
How to solve problems such as descenders from one line clashing with ascenders from the next.
How to adapt letter designs to suit the finished piece.
